A leaking gas cylinder is a problem that can cause serious havoc, if not properly handled.
Prompt and appropriate action(s) must be taken whenever this dangerous problem rears its scary head.
Major Leakage of Gas
The first thing you must quickly do when you discover that gas is gushing out of your filled gas cylinder is to get rid of every source of ignition near-by.
For instance, if there is a major leakage of gas in your kitchen, you must swiftly turn off all your gas, heating and electrical appliances.
The next line of action is to hastily move the cylinder outside, at a safe distance from your building and ensure there’s no source of ignition near-by. Then allow the gas in the cylinder to get exhausted.
Minor Leakage of Gas
An LPG Cylinder with a minor case of leakage must equally be kept outdoor. This is because keeping it indoor will lead to an accumulation of gas, which can cause a gas fire, if ignited.
Quickly contact your gasman/woman, so that the gas in the leaking cylinder can be safely transferred to another cylinder.
Leakage from the body of the cylinder
If you really love yourself and know that your cooking gas cylinder which is leaking from its body, is old/expired, substandard or outrightly fake, don’t hesitate to discard the cylinder, after you might have succeeded in getting the gas in that cylinder transferred to another one.
However, if the cylinder leaking from the body appears to be of good quality, contact your gasman/woman for assessment and advice.
Your gasman/woman may recommend taking the leaking cylinder to a professional gas welder to seal the leaking point.
Leakage from the Valve Area
The leakage of gas from inside your cylinder’s valve or the surrounding area, is not a big problem that should give you sleepless nights.
Simply contact your gasman/woman to fix the problem. The replacement of your valve is the most likely action to be taken.
