Lagos State’s Electric Buses and Nigeria’s LPG Industry

The recent unveiling of Electric Buses by the Lagos State Government for its Mass Transit Scheme - popularly known as the Bus Rapid Transit(BRT), may appear as bad news to a casual observer of Nigeria’s LPG industry.

But as far as Niglpgas.com and other keen LPG industry observers and stakeholders are concerned, it is a welcome development that portends well for the future of the nation’s cooking gas industry.

The exciting turn of events clearly shows that the Lagos State Government is gradually migrating from dirty fuels such as Diesel and Petrol, and embracing renewable energy and cleaner fuels.

At the mention of cleaner fuels, Liquified Petroleum Gas(LPG) and Compressed Natural Gas(CNG) readily come to mind.

In line with its sustained advocacy for the adoption of cooking gas as cooking fuel by residents of the state, the Lagos Government(through its company Ibile Oil and Gas) has gone ahead to put its money where its mouth is, by establishing two standard state-of-the-art LPG Bottling Plants in the State.

Therefore, the Lagos State Government can be said to be already cognizant of the huge benefits and advantages of LPG, over the other fuels and energy sources, and is expected to incorporate it into the fuel mix, for its Public Transport Scheme, in the nearest future.

Lagos State, being a mini-Nigeria, upon deploying LPG/CNG Mass Transit buses, will increase the popularity of LPG and enhance the growth of the industry in the State and across the country.
