The sharp rise in the price of petrol, has made Nigerians to shift their attention to LPG, as a good alternative fuel for their power generators.
With the availability of relatively affordable Petrol-LPG conversion kits(Carburetors) on the market, quite a number of households in the country have now configured their power generators to be able to use both petrol and LPG.
With LPG being a highly flammable fuel, there is a serious need to ensure the LPG system is installed in accordance with the requisite safety standards.
These are the safety initiatives/measures that must be adhered to, to guarantee an assurance of safety for your LPG-Powered Generator.
1. Ensure you only purchase your Petrol-LPG Conversion Kit (Carburetor) from a verified LPG Installer/Dealer, and have it installed by a competent installer.
This is to avoid procuring fake LPG Conversion kit (Carburetor) that can crack or rupture during use, and spill gas onto the exhaust of the generator, resulting in a fire outbreak/gas explosion.
2. Constantly monitor your gas hose for signs of wear and tear.
A cracked gas hose will spill gas, and could lead to a disaster, if it gets to the generator’s heated exhaust.
3. Keep your gas cylinder and power generator in a ventilated place.
Keeping your LPG Cylinder with its hose connection and power generator in a well-ventilated space will allow gas to diffuse safely when there is a leakage.
A poorly ventilated setting for your gas cylinder and power generator will allow gas to accumulate in the space if there is a leakage, which can lead to a gas explosion when it comes in contact with a source of ignition such as sparks or exhaust heat from your generator.
4. Ensure you use authentic clips at the gas regulator and LPG carburetor ends of your gas hose.
5. Regularly inspect your gas cylinder’s valve, as well as the body of the cylinder for signs of leakage.
Use soapy water to confirm leakage at suspected points on the cylinder.
6. Keep naked wire or any electrical wiring away from the area your gas cylinder and power generator, are kept.
This is to avoid ignition, peradventure there is a gas leak.
